Estonian Division


The Estonian Division is the biggest land force unit of the Estonian Defence Forces, which operates under the direct authority of the Estonian Chief of Defence. The Estonian Division is a warfighting unit and a structure operating in peace time, with its main task to plan and execute military operations in the assigned Area of Responsibility, i. e. Estonia. It consists of Estonian forces and Allied troops delegated under its command.

For the time being, the Estonian Division is transferred to the NATO chain of command and subordinated to Multinational Corps Northeast.

The Estonian Division fulfils two key purposes in the military defence of Estonia: it coordinates activities of the Estonian territorial defence forces, brigades and units from other commands, and it acts as a link between the Allies and their military capabilities.

The Division comprises: the Estonian 1st and 2nd Infantry Brigades, a Logistics Battalion, the Headquarters and Signal Battalion, and an Artillery Battalion. The Division is capable of integrating additional units under its commander control.
