Iron Wolf 20

RUKLA, Lithuania — Amongst many objectives, the multinational exercise Iron Wolf 2020 II (conducted on November 3-17) served to certify the combat readiness of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battle Group (deployed in Rukla) and King Mindaugas Hussar Battalion (deployed in Panevėžys) so they continue to act together as a highly responsive and interoperable force within the Lithuanian Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf.

"Iron Wolf" is the country's largest annual military exercise involving Allied and Lithuanian troops. Its general aim is to train and assess the ability of the Lithuanian Armed Forces to plan and complete defensive operations along with Headquarters Multinational Division North East, NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup Lithuania, NATO Force Integration Unit Lithuania and other partners. The Iron Wolf Mechanised Infantry Brigade (Mechanizuotoji pėstininkų brigada „Geležinis Vilkas“) is the prime fighting force of the Lithuanian Army.

This year's iteration saw Headquarters Multinational Division North East
(HQ MND NE) acting as Higher Control for the training troops. HICON is an integral part of all exercises. It is designed to represent the military entity to which, in reality, the exercising formation is accountable. During all phases of planning and execution, HICON is by necessity involved. It is a powerful tool providing the military guidance, especially if an exercise needs to be steered in a certain direction to fit the scenario and the preplanned activities.
