Commander Allied Land Command visits Baltic Barracks

On 22 January 2021, Commander Allied Land Command (LANDCOM) Lieutenant General Roger L. Cloutier Jr. started his visit to Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE) in Szczecin. Close partnership and cooperation in the land domain were the main topics discussed with Lieutenant General Sławomir Wojciechowski, Commander MNC NE.

Brilliant working relations

The intent of the visit is to brief the Commander LANDCOM on how MNC NE operates in particular areas of interest. Both commanders’ aim is to further strengthen the already brilliant working relations between LANDCOM and HQ MNC NE.

After his arrival in Szczecin, Lieutenant General Roger L. Cloutier Jr. was officially welcomed to Baltic Barracks by Commander MNC NE Lieutenant General Sławomir Wojciechowski. After signing the MNC NE guest book, General Cloutier was briefed on the regional aspects of the land perspective in the Baltic Sea Region. Direct talks between the two commanders and their delegations also included the upcoming Combat Readiness Evaluations (CREVAL) to certify MNC NE.

“This commander-to-commander dialogue sets the tone for the initial coordination meeting (ICM) for the evaluation that will happen soon after between our respective staffs. Once Sławomir and I agree to objectives, the evaluation team finalises the evaluation plan,” emphasized General Cloutier the purpose of his visit and added: “This is important for Multi-National Corps Northeast because, if they are called to respond to a crisis or be part of a major joint operation, they will have multiple subordinate units – often from a variety of NATO nations – that they will be responsible to command and control as MNC-NE executes operations.”

said General Cloutier.

"It is good to welcome General Cloutier again at Baltic Barracks. Our common efforts demonstrate that NATO stands united in the face of any possible aggression,"

said General Wojciechowski.

General Cloutier thanked HQ MNC NE for hosting him again in Poland. His last visit in Szczecin was in September 2020, when the LANDCOM Corps Commanders’ Conference was held in Baltic Barracks.

The role of LANDCOM

LANDCOM, as the land-focused Single-Service-Command for Allied Command Operations, is the land-domain expert and advisor to the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR). Its mission is to serve as the Theatre Land Component and Land Advocate responsible for coordinating and synchronizing NATO and partner land forces by enabling land-domain readiness, interoperability, standardization and competency.

MCN NE’s focus on a specific and defined area

HQ MNC NE acts both as a Regional Land Component Command and as a warfighting corps. As a High Readiness Force Land Headquarters, HQ MNC NE is widening its scope of responsibility to a full 360 degrees in deterrence and defence within the Baltic Sea Region. It is on permanent stand-by to take the lead in combat operations across the north-eastern flank of NATO.

MNC NE is able to offer a large contribution to collective defence planning and operations under Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty. The proven ability to exercise command and control, the key role in training and exercise and the lead role in regional knowledge development show the value of MNC NE as a headquarters with a focus on a specific and defined area – the Baltic Sea Region.
