"Griffin Lightning 21" about to kick off

SZCZECIN, Poland – On March 1-12, Headquarters Multinational Corps Northeast (HQ MNC NE) will conduct its major Command Post Exercise GRIFFIN LIGHTNING. This periodic event is designed to test the Szczecin command’s capabilities in a simulated defence operation. The exercise will take place in Joint Force Training Centre in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

GRIFFIN LIGHTING is an exercise series which aims to enhance the Corps’ Headquarters readiness to execute full-spectrum military operations in an increasingly complex and demanding regional environment.

Regardless of the circumstances, we must be ready to fulfil our tasks, and training is our foundation,

says LTG Sławomir Wojciechowski, Commander MNC NE, “It helps us remain adaptable and open-minded. Regular training builds confidence and grows our soldiers into capable professionals.”

The exercise scenario reflects all of the major challenges which would have to be responded to if confronted by an adversary. A special focus will be placed on utilizing a cross-component approach in order to evaluate the Headquarters’ development as the Regional Land Component Command. GRIFFIN LIGHTNING will serve to increase planning and decision-making skills across the Corps, including the Multinational Divisions – North East and North – and NATO Force Integration Units.

This year’s iteration will move the HQ MNC NE staff to Bydgoszcz (Poland), about 300 kilometers south-west of Szczecin. By being fully autonomous and deployable, HQ MNC NE remains prepared to complete almost any field operation quickly and efficiently anywhere, anytime.
As a means to keep the staff ready and capable amid the coronavirus pandemic, all participants of the exercise have been subject to COVID-19 testing.

“We are well-equipped for countering medical risks during exercises, and our Headquarters is working closely with both Allied and civilian health authorities. Every participant of GRIFFIN LIGHTNING follows strict hygienic rules,” summarizes COL Myrian Harf, ACOS JMED and the medical advisor to the Commander.
