An annual summer camp is the main training event for cadets from the Riga-based National Defence Academy of Latvia. This year, for the first time in the history of their eFP mission, the Italian contingent was responsible for developing and executing an intensive training programme. Led by CPT Pierre Ciampi, the Italian soldiers gave their junior colleagues a realistic battle experience.

During the exercise, teams simulated different attacks and defence tactics with the possibility to analyse the process afterwards. Using a free thinking enemy increased difficulty and realism for the training troops. All participants had to adapt under contact and keep ahead of the curve. Additionally, the trainees were introduced to the most important procedures used on NATO operations.

NATO's enhanced Forward Presence is an effective means of providing a shared understanding of tactics and protocols, which help our soldiers to act as one interoperable force.
