Lieutenant General von Sandrart chairs 5th Multinational Corps Northeast Commander's Conference

SZCZECIN, Poland — On 1-2 December, Lieutenant General Jürgen-Joachim von Sandrart conducted the 5th Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC NE) Commander's Conference. During the two-day symposium, key leaders from across the Corps and a great many Allies discussed ways of furthering cooperation in the Baltic Sea region.

Conducted in an online and real-time format, the conference saw numerous officials representing the Corps' framework nations, NATO headquarters, other components' commands and MNC NE's subordinate units stationed in Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland.

In his opening remarks, LTG von Sandrart, Commander MNC NE, stated that the conference was a useful means for all participants to gain a wider perspective on the current developments in the region. The Commander emphasized that the symposium served to share "a common and consolidated view of the priorities and future efforts". MNC NE as the only Regional Land Component Command within the NATO Force Structure had been delegated a special responsibility in terms of linking the region into one network, the Commander indicated.

LTG von Sandrart's focus was on the intensification of planning efforts concerning training and exercise. As emphasized by the General, the most lasting deterrence effects can be achieved through collaborative actions of all those involved in ensuring the Baltic region's security: "My intent is to increase regional synergy and achieve even greater regional coherence. This will help us pave the way forward in the exercise domain."

Looking ahead, the participants highlighted how important it was to continue on this trajectory and to adapt across the entire range of organization in order to maintain high readiness, responsiveness and persuasive military capabilities in an exceedingly complex environment.

LTG von Sandrart appreciated the opportunity to have had detailed discussions with not only subordinate but also superior and adjacent commands. Bringing his remarks to a close, the General concluded:

I believe events like this can greatly facilitate our common understanding of credible deterrence and, if need be, collective defence in the Baltic Sea region. No-one is an expert on their own. It is all about the team effort.
