NATO Force Integration UNIT Estonia welcomes new Commander

TALLINN, Estonia — On 10 August, Estonian Air Force Colonel Mart Vendla relinquished command of NATO Force Integration Unit (NFIU) Estonia to Estonian Navy Captain Peeter Ivask.

During the ceremony preceded by Lieutenant General Jürgen-Joachim von Sandrart, Commander Multinational Corps Northeast, the NFIU new Commander said:

I am honoured to take over a well-functioning and motivated team. A dedicated professional team is the most important thing in achieving good results, and I will do my best to lead this Unit.

CAPT (N) Ivask began his career as a conscript in 1991. Throughout more than 30 years, he has served in various positions in the Estonian Navy and in the Estonian Defence Forces General Staff. His military dossier includes assignments at the Tartu-based Baltic Defence College (NATO Joint and Maritime operations lecturer), Allied Maritime Command (Staff Officer) and Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum (Branch Head).

The ceremony in Tallinn was attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Estonian Ministry of Defence Kusti Salm and Estonia's Deputy Chief of Defence MG Veiko-Vello Palm. In addition, among distinguished guests were representatives from other NFIUs, Ambassadors and Defence Attachés.
