In his final address, LTG von Sandrart emphasized that the Corps remains at the heart of NATO’s deterrence more than ever before. As stated by the outgoing Commander, after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine MNC NE’s Area of Operations – the Baltic Sea region – has become the borderline of freedom, and the Corps is a vital component of NATO’s collective defence.
“Together, we answered the call. We did what we are best at: Serving our Alliance, our countries and our societies. We developed a plan against the remaining threat at our border, and in April 2022, we issued the order to defend our Area of Operations.”
Von Sandrart underlined that NATO demonstrated unity and resolve in the face of Russia's unjust war against Ukraine. He sent a strong signal that the crime of aggression will never pay off.
“I clearly say this to Russia: Your time as an oppressor in this region is over! As NATO, we will never allow Russia to attack our homeland and take away our freedom.”
At the same time, the outgoing Commander extended his gratitude to the Allies from the Baltic Sea region and their commitment to assist MNC NE in its mission.
“We are here to deter our enemies and, it needs be, defend our homeland. I cannot think about a more important task in my life and I am grateful that my career path took me to this very moment,” summarized von Sandrart.
In his opening remarks, LTG Parylak expressed his pride in joining Multinational Corps Northeast. He spoke highly of his predecessor and his accomplishments.
“I am honoured to take over from the exceptional officer who has led this Corps with excellence and diligence though the most challenging times. Jürgen-Joachim, thank you for your leadership, your service, for your steadfast devotion to the mission and for leaving me a command that is ready and capable.”
Bringing his address to a close, the incoming Commander pledged to further develop MNC NE’s posture in the region: “This Corps will remain committed to respond to today’s challenges while preparing for the future so our deterrence is evident and effective,” stated Parylak.
The ceremony saw service members from across MNC NE lined up on the parade ground alongside military bands and colour guards representing the Corps’ framework nations.
