Exercise Oak Resolve validates combat readiness of NATO Multinational Brigade Latvia

Mar 6 2025

SZCZECIN, Poland – On February 21-28, NATO Multinational Brigade Latvia conducted exercise Oak Resolve, Ādaži Military Base, Latvia. The exercise served to test the Brigade's combat readiness and lethality in a realistic, multinational training environment. This was the first major capability evaluation since the unit expanded to brigade size.

More than 2,000 soldiers from 14 NATO member states verified their capabilities in a contested battle space. Oak Resolve integrated multiple combat and support units to achieve the requisite training objectives. As underscored by Colonel Cédric Aspirault, Commander Multinational Brigade Latvia,

Through rigorous evaluation and multinational cooperation, the Brigade keeps demonstrating its ability to maintain high levels of readiness and operational effectiveness.

Supported by the Canadian Manoeuvre Training Centre, the Canadian Army’s Centre of Excellence for Collective Training, with over 100 Observer Controller Trainers and approximately 150 other enablers, Oak Resolve was the first combat readiness evaluation that the Brigade's framework nation Canada conducted outside its borders.

As a certifying exercise, Oak Resolve validated that NATO Multinational Brigade Latvia was combat-ready, interoperable and could effectively communicate and operate in real-world scenarios. Sending a clear deterrent message, the Brigade represents NATO's substantial and persistent presence in the Baltic Sea region. "Our commitment to collective defence and the security of NATO's eastern flank is unwavering," summarized Aspirault.

In addition, Oak Resolve was the first NATO evaluation participated by the Swedish Army.
