Over the past 20 years Multinational Corps Northeast has undergone a steady transformation that corresponded to the challenges the overall development of the security environment.
Founded in 1999 by the three framework nations POLAND, DENMARK AND GERMANY Multinational Corps North-East was to support and enhance the integration of the new member states into NATO. In this timeframe and as part the Forces of Lower Readiness, the corps also deployed repeatedly (three times) to Afghanistan.
The second stage of its evolution came in light of the events in Crimea and Ukraine. With the Readiness Action Plan, passed at the NATO summit in Wales, the Alliance reacted to the increased threat to the north-eastern part of the its territory. It foresaw reinforcements and adaptation measures to NATO’s presence in the region. The framework nations declared to significantly strengthen Multinational Corps North-East here in Szczecin in order to make it a hub for regional cooperation and security as well as to facilitate the implementation of decisions the Readiness Action Plan. Multinational Corps Northeast advanced to a High Readiness Force HQ.
Today, after more than 20 years, we see ourselves on the third step of our evolution. As described before we have progressed to become a Regional Command in an assigned region with a coherent mission and authority over subordinate formations.
